An Unexpected Success
I read this article, which in turn convinced me to try my hand at this recipe and there was plenty time to doubt myself and Mark Bittman's purported, never-fail results during the 20-something hours that was required to complete the bread. As always, though, Mr. Bittman was right and I can't wait to make it for Mom and Dad when they come to Chicago for my sister's graduation.

Pink Macarons
As I can distinctly remember with remorse the not-so-pretty, first-attempt batch of chocolate macarons from earlier this week, I was lucky this time to get anything that resembled these, these, or these. Mine aren't perfect and I'm still figuring out the recipe, but I do believe the aging of egg whites helped in forming the "feet" of these fickle cookies.
